Reflections on “rewards”

In the modern world of quick gratification of status and photos shared with everyone in an instant, I felt compelled to put up a simple post this week. I will be the first to admit, I like the fun at putting a photo or status on Facebook and seeing how many responses and “likes” I get to it. But we are not here to gather the accolades of our friends. If that were the only reason we came then we would have “our reward”. We are here to serve the Lord. We would much rather serve with all my heart and receive the “rewards” of Heaven from the Lord. From Matthew chapter 6:

1.Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.

4. That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward they openly.

Providing service to the people of Canberra Stake is our “alms” right now. We are doing the work everyday here…to bless the lives of those we touch. Yes, it was fun to sight see and visit places that are special, but that is not what we are here for. We are here to work. I don’t want to give anyone the impression that we are “on vacation”. Not that this experience has not been one of the most enjoyable things we have ever done! We have been so very blessed to do this work and it has brought us such great joy! What we will take from this country and this amazing experience are the memories of people, of our love for them, of serving them and seeing our service change their lives. Because that is what a mission is for…to change people’s lives. We feel that we are doing that. And we are grateful for that! This is our “reward”!

We bear testimony to  you who are reading this that we know our Father in Heaven is a real being who loves us and that he lives. We love our Heavenly Father. We testify to you that Jesus is the Christ and that he lived and died for us and for all of you. We love our Savior Jesus Christ. We are so grateful for the Atonement of our Savior who helps us and gets us through all the trials that we face…just like all of you. Thank you for your faith and prayers on our behalf. We love you all!

Until next time…
