We have had the best week! Of course, we have had Christmas since I posted last. In fact, at the end of my last post, I said I would include our Christmas card and I didn’t…so, here it is for all to enjoy.
We were able to attend our Mission Christmas Conference last Monday. We drove into Sydney and back the same day, but we so much enjoyed our time with all the missionaries in our mission. Our Mission President told us that he had to get special permission from the Area Authority to hold a mission wide conference, so it may not happen again before we go home. So we were especially grateful to see missionaries we had worked with before, some of which were going home soon. It was a fun and entertaining day, not including our short talks at the devotional in the morning! Here is the mission photo that was taken that day, followed by some other photos we took during the festivities. The mission photo is a small resolution…we are in the lower left side, just back from the front.
I took many photos and videos of the Talent show portion of the day, but I will not post any of those…just to tell you that it was entertaining and fun! And it was wonderful watching talent from many talented missionaries from many different parts of the world. It was a very fun day!
On Christmas Eve we went to a Sister’s home for dinner and devotional. She is a single Mom with 7 children and there were many others there that night, too. All 6 missionaries from her ward, her ex husband, his parents, sister and some close family friends. This was such a special evening with some very dear friends. The food was wonderful and the spiritual part was wonderful! Here are a few photos from the evening. (Notice we are outside in the warm summer air, and eating prawns and grilled steak, in addition to a ham and chicken.)
Christmas Day was quiet and we enjoyed just being together that day. We had a nice dinner here in our flat and opened the few care packages we had received. It was especially nice to focus on the Savior and his birth and life…and not on all the trappings of shopping, decorating or the hustle bustle of the holiday. Delightful!
On Boxing Day (the day after Christmas for those not familiar with that holiday) we spent the better part of 7 hours talking by Skype and Face Time to our family and a close friend. Of course, this was Christmas Day in the States. This was our best Christmas present! How we loved seeing and talking to those we love the most! Now isn’t that how Christmas should be celebrated? I tried to capture some of our calls in photos, but since I missed some, and I don’t want to leave anyone out, I will not post them on the blog. It was a most enjoyable day for us.
We have had the chance to see a few more of the sights of Canberra on Friday and Saturday. I will include those photos in my next blog post. We have had the most wonderful week and hope that your holidays are just has nice as ours have been.
We are so grateful to be doing service here in Canberra. This is a wonderful place, with such good people and we love working with them and growing to love them. The Lord is blessing us with such great blessings and we feel His sustaining hand in our lives here.
May you find yourself happy and healthy this New Year.
Until next time…
