We are leaving in 6 weeks to go into the MTC! It’s hard to believe its getting so close. There are many things to take care of before we go. When a young person goes on a mission, they have less “responsibilities” to leave behind. An older “mature” couple leaves behind a more established life and this requires more logistical planning!
Lyle has been overseeing the more business type decisions. These things pertain to making arranging for the care of our home, our banking, health insurance, taxes paid and other arrangements for the things that have to be covered while we are gone. Just changing our emails has been a bit daunting! Think about all the things you would do if you were leaving your life for a year and half!
I’m trying to get our home dealt with. Deep cleaning, and organized. We are trying to eat up all our food. And, of course, we are both buying all our clothes and supplies to take with us. This is proving a bit tricky, as all the clothing in the stores are for winter climate and we will arrive in Australia in the middle of the summer! Luckily, we will live in a large, modern city where all things will be at our fingertips!
It’s been interesting to approach Christmas this year. Our “gifts” for each other are the clothes and supplies we are buying. Of course, we are enjoying the gift buying for the grandchildren and so wish we could spend Christmas with all of them. They will all change and grow while we are gone, but we hope to “see” them often as we Skype With them. We would love to wish everyone a wonderful Christmas. We love our Savior and we are so grateful to celebrate his birth during this wonderful time of year.
As we finish our preparation and anxiously await our departure, we think about all of you. We will miss you all, but we are looking forward to serving the young people of Canberra. We have been invited to speak in both the Singles Ward we serve in, as well as our home ward. We speak in the Orange Hills Ward (singles) on December 30 at 1:00 pm and we speak in the Santiago Creek Ward (home ward) on January 13 at 1:00 pm. We will also have an Open House goodbye “Party”, although we’re waiting for approval before we announce that event. Please put these on your calendars and wait for Facebook events to be created for each of them, including the Open House. We’d love to see as many of you as possible before we leave. I’ll also make another post on the blog when it’s all “official”.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you!
